- Broad bill Forest Camp
Broad bill Forest Camp is a mid-range lodge located in Ruhija, on the Eastern edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to half of the remaining mountain gorillas and famous for gorilla tracking.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is a key destination for birders visiting Uganda and includes globally threatened species such as African Green Broad bill from whom the lodge derives its name.
The camp is calm and peaceful with fantastic views of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest making it a perfect place to totally unwind and relax, away from the pressures and stresses of everyday life.
Broad bill Forest camp is located at the very edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, encouraging birding on your balcony for the rare Albertine Rift Valley endemics in the east of the forest. Even after a long day’s safari, you will not be tempted to put your binoculars at rest.
Activities in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
We are located in Ruhija, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest which offers a great variety of activities.
Gorilla Tracking; this is one of the most famous activities. Gorilla permits must be booked in advance since they are a requirement for gorilla tracking. The lodge can arrange these permits from Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) on behalf of our clients if asked in advance or at the time of booking the lodge. They cost 600 US dollars for foreign non-residents, 500 US dollars for foreign residents and 250,000sh for East Africans. During the promotional months of April, May and November, the gorilla permits will cost 450 US dollars for foreign non-residents, 400 US dollars for foreign residents and 150,000sh for East Africans. Gorilla groups in Ruhija are Bitukura, Oruzogo and Kyaguriro.
Nature Walking Safaris
For walking safaris through Bwindi impenetrable forest, book in advance and our local guides will take you through. This also includes guided walk s to Mubwindi swamp and to a water fall.
Cultural Community Tours

Ruhija Gorilla Friends Lodge and Campsite is community owned and run establishment offering budget accommodation in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Staying with Ruhija Gorilla Friends Lodge and Campsite will be easy for you to track the Bitukura and Oruzogo gorilla troops; the briefing point is approximately 500 m from the campsite at Ruhija Gate.
Ruhija Gorilla Friends Lodge and Campsite has furnished safari tents, a restaurant and bar. The tents and restaurant overlooks the deep valleys and the gorilla forest as you relax on the balcony of your safari tent. If you prefer to bring your own camping equipment, you can pitch your own tent.
Ruhija area is home to a multitude of bird species, mammals and primates including the great gorilla that lives in the park. Other activities and experience include traditional dances, and village and nature walks.

Gorilla mist camp is a camp located in Bwindi impenetrable national park on the South western wing Ruhija Tracking area, where the gorilla families Oruzogo, Bitukura and Kyaguriro are found.
It is also located near one of the best swamps known for birding safaris, with unique species like African green broad bill (Where this species only nests in the whole of Africa). It is 50km from Kabale town and 42 Km from Buhoma Tracking area. It consists of 5 grass thatched luxurious Banda’s all self-contained with nature at its best comfort.
Nestled in the foothills of Kabale, our guests will feel right at home in any of our camp accommodations rooms. Gorilla Mist Camp is located 50 kilometres from Kabale town and it takes you 2 and half hours’ drive. From Buhoma Gorilla Sector, it’s 50 Kilometers and still takes 2 and half hours’ drive.
2 hours from Kabale town on a murrum bumpy road brings you to a wooden gate of Ndego that opens up to the forest drive. A 12km drive through the forest whistles and creaks deep in a secret world of mossy-green and pearl grey filled with ferns all over the trees will drive with you up to the second gate Ruhija gate.
It also has got 3 unique tented rooms all self-contained with solar electricity and running water all the time. The main house consists of a well-stocked bar, library, lounge, a dining area; a fireplace and a well-positioned balcony for you’re at most view like the Six peaks of the Virunga’s, when the weather is clear. You are also able to view the entire Bwindi forest unless the weather is misty, just like our name.
The Gorilla groups you visit are Oruzogo, Bitukura and Kyaguriro. You set-off from the camp to the park headquarters at7:50am in the morning so that by 8:00am you already at the park station and this will take you a 5 minutes’ drive only. You are required to move with packed lunch box and at least a litre of water which is organized by Gorilla Mist camp. Apart from gorilla trekking, several activities can be done around Ruhija which include bird watching, forest walk and nature walks, and village walks.
- Gift of nature lodge
The Gift of Nature Lodge is located in the Kabale Ruhija Country, the ideal place to stay while trekking gorillas in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The lodge is situated near to the famous gorilla trekking site, and offers a peaceful atmosphere. Gift of Nature Lodge is 9.9km from the centre of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
